The ongoing race freakout: Pat Buchanan, as usual, gets it right. This time, on Powell's stab in the back. I never particularly liked the general, and he showed Sunday that he is a consummate, opportunistic politician like his buddy Obama. I think he is bored and looking for a job offer.

But the reason I post this is that I watched Sunday as some woman pundit on MSNBC told Pat that it was beneath him to suggest that race was a factor in Powell's decision. She almost passed out, his words were so shocking.

Here is Powell's answer to the race question posed by Brokaw:

"If I had only had that in mind, I could have done this six, eight, 10 months ago. I really have been going back and forth between somebody I have the highest respect and regard for, John McCain, and somebody I was getting to know, Barack Obama. And it was only in the last couple of months that I settled on this. And I can't deny that it will be a historic event for an African-American to become president. And should that happen, all Americans should be proud--not just African-Americans, but all Americans--that we have reached this point in our national history where such a thing could happen. It will also not only electrify our country, I think it'll electrify the world."

This is a roundabout way of saying that Powell can't deny that race is one factor. The black pundit, Juan Williams, said on Fox that of course race was a factor. It's simply a fact, but the woman's response shows the race hysteria among whites that I frequently complain about. This ongoing race freakout is a HUGE problem, and it destroys our ability to deal with so many problems.

This of course illustrates precisely why it is a profoundly stupid idea to allow large scale, out of control from one cultural/ethnic/linguistic group, i.e. Hispanics. When they reach 25% of the population, they will effectively control our elections because they will vote in roughly a 65/35 block for Democrats, and if said Democrat has a Hispanic surname, you can probably peg that split at more like 80/20, if not higher.

The time is coming when candidates for office from either party will be considered "unelectable" if they do not speak Spanish, and since most Anglos don't speak Spanish, that means we will be a majority non-Hispanic country ruled by Hispanics. The implications for that are surely not positive, if the quality of our elected officials here in California is any indication. Corruption, self-dealing, and anti-white bigotry are just some of the wonderful features of California politics, courtesy of dirtbags like Fabian Nunez, Gil Cedillo, Tony Villar, et al.

    sfg,
So race is OK if you are black I guess. Well, of course it is, just ask Richard Cohen. The ever moving goalposts of liberalism.... Can whites vote and root for the white guy to win? Is that OK?

  4. The 'race freakout' which has been ongoing for the last 50 or so years is escalating, and it does undoubtedly hamper us in dealing with our most pressing problems as a society. For example: our tidal wave of immigration. Because the vast majority of our immigrants, legal and illegal, are nonwhite, we are hamstrung by fear of being called ''racists'' when we express unhappiness with mass immigration. We are hindered from trying to encourage assimilation or to require immigrants to learn English because the race card is played when we raise these issues.
The race problem is also affecting our educational system for the worse, with the effort to 'raise achievement levels' among minorities, whose difficulties in learning are blamed only on white 'racism.'
And then there's the subprime mortgage crisis, and the overall effect on our economy, connected to immigration and to the efforts to artificially create 'equality'.

As to 'sfg's point about ethnocentrism, of course the ethnic groups he mentions would vote in an ethnocentric way, because the groups mentioned are minority groups with a stronger ethnic consciousness than most 'generic' Americans who are a mixture of several western European ancestries. The more recent immigrant groups are highly ethnocentric, and are allowed to be so. Only old-stock White Americans are laboring under the illusion that the name of the game is to be 'colorblind' and 'just an American.' That puts us at a huge disadvantage, when everybody else sticks together with their ethnic/racial kin, and we gamely try to play the 'colorblind' game.

Much of it is in our hands, however, in how we respond to the freak out. Any backtracking at all reinforces the freakouters. To hell with them. There is absolutely nothing to be apologetic about and it's time we began speaking that way.
