To find a Republican Senator more liberal than McCain, you have to go to the--yuck--Northeast: The American Thinker analyzes numbers from the American Conservative Union to show that there are only three current Republican Senators more liberal than McCain--Collins (R-ME) Snowe (R-ME) and Specter (R-ME).

    Not to mention the fact that once in office GOP Presidents usually move left. See: Nixon, Ford, George HW Bush, George W Bush.

    And Collins has been more restrictionist than McCain. I'm assuming she's considered to be on his left due to less support for continued presence in Iraq--hardly a 'liberal' position that should upset traditional conservatives!
