The Family/Gender/Sexual Revolution is a complex phenomenon, but there are signs that the rejection of traditional values continues to spread--50 years after it began.
Here are the percentage of Americans who think that various actions are morally acceptable, measured at the beginning and the end of the last decade (from Gallup):
Percent thinking the behavior is morally acceptable
Sex between unmarried man and woman
Beginning 53
End 59
Change +6
Divorce
Beginning 59
End 69
Change +10
Having a baby outside of marriage
Beginning 45
End 54
Change +9
Gay marriage should be valid
Beginning 27
End 44
Change +17
Attitudes toward gay marriage have changed most dramatically, but this issue is just the most recently-grown leg of a monster that was born in the Sixties. The new ethic replacing the traditional one claims that any kind of relationship is good as long as it is honest, voluntary, and egalitarian (infidelity and polygamy are as condemned now as 10 years ago). Any limitations beyond that are considered judgmental. Questions of what is good for children or what is good for the country are irrelevant. Freedom from sexual rules, self-fulfillment, accommodativeness, egalitarianism, and androgyny are the new idols. The new Prophet is half Beatnik, half Woman.

ReplyDeleteThe next frontiers for ending the hate, I'm sure.
Then what? Bestiality? NAMBLA? There always must be some cause for advocates of "equality" to push, after all.
At the current rate, by late century we may well have quasi-legalized rape. This suggests we may be headed towards rape as a civil offense, incurring a light fine, as our society becomes more and more satiated with pornography and hedonism. [Source].
Also noteworthy is the fact that the abortion issue is settled and the abortionists won. After no-fault divorce, abortion and gay "marriage" comes polygamy and lowering the age of consent. A new people rule and their values are replacing the values of the conquered Whites. Christianity may be outlawed in Western Europe before the end of the century.
ReplyDeleteI really don't see how any court can deny polygamy as legit if gay marriage is approved by any judiciary. If you can change a definition once, you can change it twice, thrice, and so on.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so what kind of event would have to occur to reinvigorate the idea of the traditional family of husband, wife, children? (or the tradional values of hard work leading to reward, laziness leading to lack of reward?)
ReplyDeleteIdeas?

ReplyDeleteTwo things: (1) The track record of people who follow those norms, in terms of life success. (2) A crisis (or series of crises) that discredit the post-68 values that currently dominate elite thinking.
The first is self-explanatory. I can see the second happening if America experiences a couple of decades of obvious decline vis-a-vis China and others. PC/68er values may look impregnable now, but they could collapse as suddenly and totally as the values that supported Jim Crow-style segregation a couple of generations ago.
