Are gun owners mentally ill?

Some anti-gun people think owning a gun is a sign of some kind of mental abnormality. According to General Social Survey data, gun owners are not more likely to have ever suffered from some sort of mental health problem.

Surveys that depend on self-evaluation are a poor measure of anything other than self-evaluation. (See Dunning-Kruger effect for an example of this.) It could very well be that gun owners are more aggressive and defensive and therefore less likely to recognize or admit to mental illness in themselves. To put it more impartially, gun owners may be less likely to conceptualize mental/emotional patterns in themselves as mental illness than non-gun owners.

  2. I find the statistical evidence presented reassuring.

  3. And link the movement. Not to beat a dead horse, but I don't know how people can't get excited over an independent watchmaker introducing a brand new proprietary movement architecture, then executing it on an industrial scale, and keeping the price in the relatively affordable ballpark. link And then to back it link up with a 10-year warranty.
