I've detected in HBD World two contrasting images of a Real Man.
Here's one of them:
And here's the other:
I won't speak for the rest, but I vote for the first one.

You forgot the thug who beats his girlfriend and exemplified all the best traits of the ghetto gangster - this seems to be the most widely admired "real man" in the Roissysphere. In a recent ranking of relative Alpha status, Roissy described the ultimate Alpha as, among other things, someone who "gets" to beat his girlfriend without her leaving him. What a magnificent privilege! Surely every "real man" wants to beat his girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteAs Game was invented by weak nerdy men who cannot conceive of a confident male who doesn't have elements of the thug, your first image of the confident cowboy, who expresses manly restraint without any need to be macho, is actually very far from what these people admire as a "real man".

ReplyDeleteI second your vote, Ron.
ReplyDeleteFor a more 'balanced' comparison, we might contrast Hank Hill (natural leader, low agreeableness, devoted traditionalist) with Boomhauer (socially aloof, unmarried, frequent short-term relationships acquired through a volume strategy) in Mike Judge's King of the Hill series as contrasting images of Real Men.
Just as silly looking to me as choice #2 is a pic you didn't offer--one of guy who's got 6 pack abs--yuck.
ReplyDeleteI think most women are like me: we like men who look natural. A little weight lifting is just fine, but too much and a guy comes off as vain or gay...or both.
Sadly, we see too much of that.
Any man who can get Grace Kelly in her prime to risk gunfire for him is a real man in my book.
