There is a stereotype that female cops are lesbians. Is it true?
Using GSS data (sample size = 129) 15 percent of female law enforcement officers are homosexual or bisexual. According the the same survey, only 2.7 percent of all women are homosexual or bisexual.
How about gay cops? Do you remember the officer from the Village People? Out of 102 male officers, ZERO are homosexual or bisexual.

It probably would be better to say zero percent of men are openly homosexual or bi-sexual.
ReplyDeleteThere is a big big social stigma in Law Enforcement for non heterosexual males, enough to endanger life and career in many departments.
102 male cops, 126 female cops. Srsly? How do they sample? I know they oversample [numerical] minorities to have more reliable stats, but that's sort of odd.
ReplyDeleteI think the "gay cop" thing comes from it being a common gay fetish (along with many other dominant/submissive dynamics).
ReplyDeleteCivilization is gay. Well, ultimately it isn't even gay, its just asexual or haplodiploid at best. But on the way from converting a sexual species -- a species made up of individual men and women -- it has to mutilate their individuality to mold them into cells. It does this by promoting gayness, and any other perversion of genuine sex (the 600 million year old kind of sex) that is expedient in service of "being part of something greater than ourselves."
ReplyDeleteAll attempts by civilization to be humane during this transition, such as the secular "Rule of Thumb" or the religions that place the man in authority over their wives and children (actually this was secular as codified in Roman law to the point that he could kill legally kill them) are ultimately to no avail so long as "civilization" is the overriding value.
At the boundaries between the civil and natural worlds are pseudo-men:
police (and other "first responders"), soldiers, frontiersmen (cowboys), etc. On these pesudo-men is heaped all the mutilated masculinity of civilization -- a granting of temporary, revokable, strings-attached reprieve in limited circumstances. Playing on that pseudo-masculinity was the genius of The Village People.
Those not sanctioned to have even this multilated masculinity, but who nevertheless exhibit it, are raped in prison.
If you add in the cop from Village People into the stats, you get 103 out of 103. He was straight.
