White attitudes toward multiculturalism

In this new study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, researchers report that whites implicitly associate multiculturalism with exclusion. They are less likely to see it as being something they are a part of. Whites with a high need to belong are less attracted to multicultural organizations. I interpret this to mean that socially independent whites are more enthusiastic about organizations that devalue their race. Overall, whites as a group do not buy the propaganda that multiculturalism is inclusive.

"Whites" (f/k/a "Americans") intuitively get it -- even if they can't quite articulate it -- that multiculturalism isn't about enjoying ethnic foods, and colorful costumes and once-a-year parades. It's about tearing down the majority culture and making it easier for the ruling elites to pursue their ends without those bothersome middle class Americans who have these silly, antiquated ideas like getting ahead based on merit, a high degree of societal trust and transparency, and so on. It's much easier to enrich yourself and amass power when the little people are distracted by stuff like their formerly nice neighborhoods and schools changing in what seems like the blink of an eye.

Multiculturalism means that every culture is encouraged to celebrate its own achievements, except for the one culture that actually achieved something.
