Pollsters said Hispanics were more tolerant of gay marriage than other groups, something that struck me as strange considering their ties to the Catholic Church.

The Church's teachings, I know, are often ignored by Catholics, even if they attend mass regularly or semi-regularly. The Church is, it seems, more a cultural part of their lives than anything else, a relic when it comes to shaping other attitudes, but considering the "machismo" aspect of the Hispanic male and the still-very observable Hispanic female acceptance of that machismo, I was surprised.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26188478.post-6172227347333893952010-07-11T01:31:36.295-07:002010-07-11T01:31:36.295-07:00@ Anonymous:

Thats one of the things thats been hard to express to others as to why a conservative should be so opposed to immigration. When we won the Cold War in roughly 1990, I thought the tide was really turning our way. We had just had 8 years of Reagan, and even though I didn't like Bush-the-Elder (I thought he was a "country-club" conservative for the very wealthy), I was optimistic about the GOP dominating the Democrats in the future as more-and-more whites figured out that socialistic policies were not as effective as conservative ones. Then I seen my first illegal alien (it was either in 89' or 90') working on a construction site. I was with somebody, I think it was my dad. I remember telling him, "hey look, its a little Mexican guy, just like in the Western Movies". It was explained to me then that they were getting to work on construction crews and that they supposedly going to make houses cheaper because they'd work so cheap due to a dollar going so much further in Mexico. I thought about it for a minute, and remembering that I did some construction in high school said something like, "but what about guys who do construction here, wont that put them out of work?".

The second notion to occur to me was that, "what if they begin to vote?" I figured, just like black ethnic politics, they'd form grievance groups and agitate for various quotas. This was back in the roughly 1990. By 1992 I was telling several people that we were giving the country away to the Democrats if we keep letting the Mexicans in, because I was sure the Democrats would promise them the moon, paid for by white people, for their vote.

I literally beat everybody I knew to the punch in figuring out that immigrants = new democrats. That would be the case for almost any new group unfortunately, because the Democrats, even if they couldn't promise anything else, would still resort to proferring more immigration to the newbies than the GOP, essentially telling them that they'd let their families and friends come in exchange for the votes. The Dems, or several of them, were openly favoring the Soviets over us back in the Cold War. I remember that. I knew then that there was nothing they wouldn't stoop too.

I just wish there were a place for whites to go to be a majority somewhere on this planet. But since Europe and Canada are doing the same thing we are (albeit more slowly), and Russia's history is so scary (Lubyanka, Gulag, Crazy Czars like Ivan the Terrible, the NKVD, the KGB, planned famines, Lenin, Stalin, Cherneko, Khrushev, Andropov, Brezhnev, Beria, Dzezerzhinsky, etc), this really is about the only place for us. If you'd have told me a day before I saw that guy that Id ever be a minority in this nation, I'd have thought you were crazy. I remember growing up in an America that seemed about 90% white, and even more white "out in the country" away from the city. Now I can see being a minority within 30 years easily.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26188478.post-31286184620168569462010-07-10T19:55:21.125-07:002010-07-10T19:55:21.125-07:00OneSTDV,

I'd like to see data showing whether the children of immigrants in the United States grow up and have beliefs more similar to their parents' or to their peers.Geniushttp://declineofgenius.com/noreply@blogger.com
